"That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;" (Phil. 1:10) We live in a time when men call evil good and good evil. "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" (Isaiah 5:20) It seems that the whole foundations of the world are out ofcourse ((Psa. 82:5). That which we called normal 50 years ago is now almost abnormal and that which was only spoken of in closets is now being shouted from the rooftops. The hero used to be the good guy, even on Hollywood shows but now, the more profane, the more evil, the more rebellious, the more hateful, the more immoral, the more sedulous, the better. Is this a surprise to God? Not a bit. He warned us of this time. Paul wrote to Timothy in 2 Timothy chapter 3, beginning in verse 1 the following: "1 ¶ This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away." That passage could fill pages of writing but notice that he said at the end to "turn away" from these things. He didn't say we should hate those who did them, snub them, or ridicule them for their sins, but hate the things they do. Do you hate sin or are you becoming subject to the world's system and Satan's mouthpiece, becoming more sympathetic toward it. There is judgment for sin, for us all if not put under the blood of Christ. It must be repented of, forsaken, and we must walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4). But that's the good thing! We don't have to stay in the vices of Satan, we can get out through the Savior who gave himself for us. If you're caught in the vice of besetting sins and habits, there is freedom through Christ. There is hope with Him as your Savior and Lord! He can make your life brand new then you will want to "approve those things that are excellent," and you can be "sincere and without offence" until Christ returns for his church.
