Joy! If there is anything that is needed in this world, it's true, non-artificial joy. People do everything they can to try to get it. They plan getaways, take pills, drink alcoholic beverages, try new relationships, change locations and/or jobs, change their hair styles, their dress style, find new friends, frequent new places, change the décor and furniture in their homes, buy a different auto, or even get more education. This is all to find deep satisfaction and joy in living.
Drugs and alcohol are only like a credit card, you're borrowing from tomorrow for today but the reckoning day will come - both here in this life as well in the next unless you repent. "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise." (Proverbs 20:1) 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 says the following. "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God." That's the Word of God.
Constantly striving to get nicer things do not make for joy as they soon wear out and the joy is gone. The only one who can give real joy is Jesus Christ! He can give that joy that is beyond our understanding! "Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:" (1 Peter 1:8) The pills and drugs wear off. The new car gets old. The new clothes wear out. The new furniture wears out. The more education only leaves us with more responsibility and problems. Note: I'm not against education as I've been to college myself but the fear of God must be along side that knowledge. So if you are going to school to, say be a nurse, that's fine! Just remember that God is the creator and Savior of the world and nothing happens without him. When you keep that in your heart, keeping a loving relationship with the Savior, you can have joy with that education.
Listen to the songs just for a few minutes on the secular radio and you see that they are nothing but heartache, rebellion, full of adultery and fornication, and violence. What joy is in that! What joy is in someone shooting someone else? That may seem like joy to them but it is joy provided by Satan who is a liar and deceiver. This word lies in wickedness. "And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness." (1 John 5:19) The world is a wicked place but Jesus has overcome the world. "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." (John 16:33) Yes, we all have some tribulation in this world and there are times when we do get discouraged and down. But when we begin to pray and look to the Author of the universe, we get that joy that is deep down that the world cannot give. "The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens." (Psalms 113:4) If you do not know the Savior, ask Him into your heart acknowledging that you are a sinner. "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" (Romans 3:23) Yet, Christ can save you from your sins. "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8) .You must ask Him into your heart and if you do, he will come in and save you. "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me." (Revelations 3:20) Openly confess Him as Savior and LORD and begin your walk with him. Begin reading the Bible daily, starting at the book of John in the New Testament. Pray and talk to the LORD daily and find a church that upholds the scripture as the final authority of God's Word. And as a believer, the baptism of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking with other tongues is yours to have if you pray for it. God can fill you just like he did on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2:4. "4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." This promise has not gone away even as Peter later pointed out. "For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." (Acts 2:39) Then, you will have even more joy!
